2014 Holiday Fitness Wish List

11 / 24 / 147 / 5 / 22

It’s that time of the year when my mother asks for my Christmas wish list so I make a blog post with handy dandy links to the product pages for easy online shopping šŸ™‚ Some of these things I already have as I’ve been truly blessed this year but hopefully this inspires you to maybe place them on your wish list this year!

Running

Pro Compression Socks – these are instrumental in keeping me running (literally). I wore compression socks all summer for my races & I wear them at night while recovering. They decrease inflammation and keep me functioning. I’m putting the blue ones on my wish list!

Polar M400 – I’m testing out this device at the moment and if I love it I’ll be buying it for myself this Christmas!

2XU Compression Tights – If you’re looking for a pair of running tights these are my favourite and are actually made for women. Get them on your list for all your winter and spring training.

Mizuno Wave Rider 18Ā – I love cushioning shoes. After I finish healing my ankle I’m going to start attacking more road running and I’m going to need these bad boys to get me going. I’ve done one run in them so far and adore them. Get them on your list fast for winter training or springĀ runs!

Fluffed Up PulloverĀ – I love my yellow Lululemon pullover jacket but it’s definitely getting a bit grimy from two seasons of running. Although not the best for visibility I love the new black fluffed-up version Lululemon has out this season!

Original BuffĀ – I received my first buff this year at the 5 Peaks Race Series and then I picked up my own at the last X Man race of the year. A buff can be worn in so many different ways. I am going to wear mine as a neck warmer this winter & I’ve worn it as a headband a couple of times (below is my X Man one)! This is a great stocking stuffer!

Brisk Run Gloves – although I do wear these running these are actually my staple everyday gloves with the phone touch pads. No need to remove mittens on and off while updating social media.

Running Gifts

Fitness & Obstacle Race Training

Roots Onesie – after a hard workout or run all I want to do is curl up on the couch. Who wouldn’t want to curl up in this onesie?!

Dirt in Your Skirt Spear Kit – if you’ve ever done a Spartan race you know the spear throw is a killer. Since I would really like to avoid doingĀ burpees in 2015Ā I want to build a spear-throwing station. Maybe my condo will allow me a spot out back?

Titan Weighted Compression Shirt – ok so in my quest to become more hardcore I want to train with more weight. Although a weighted vest is great for some movements it’s not the best to run in. Cue hardcore music and feast your eyes upon the Titan weighted compression shirt. They only make men’s so I’m hoping the small would fit šŸ™‚

Spartan Race Season Pass or X Man Season Pass – a season pass will allow me to do as many Eastern Canada Spartan races as possible and the X Man pass will allow me to do all three in Quebec next summer!

Pedicure Gift Certificate – let’s face it athletes don’t have the nicest feet and we rarely treat ourselves because we usually don’t know when is the best time for pretty feet based on all we do. But it’s nice to spoil ourselves once in a while.

Fitness Gifts

New Addition: I almost forgot I’ve been crushing on the purse collection by 6 Pack Fitness. I must add the Renee Tote to my wish list! The purse looks better for me carting it to the office & it holds 4 containers vs. 3 in the original small version. They still don’t ship to Canada so I’ll have to patiently wait for this bad boy to arrive in our wonderful country.

Holiday Running Wish List 2013

I’m so excited for Christmas and can’t wait to spoil my friends and family with love. Hopefully, Santa showers me with love too! Here is a list of things I’d love to help me with my run goals in 2014.

1. Compression Socks: I’m very unfamiliar with compression sock brands so I think I need to try CEP Recovery + Pro Socks and Zensah Compression Socks and figure out a winner.

2.Ā Mizuno Breath Thermo Layered Tight: As much as I love my lulu tights from last season I need to up my winter running game this year. The breath thermo technology looks amazing and I can’t wait to see if they live up to their moisture-wicking promise.

3.Ā Lululemon Run With Me MittensĀ orĀ Zensah Running Gloves: I just love having touchpad fingers on my running gloves so I can work my Nike + app on runs. I end up wearing these daily anyway so I’ll need one pair for running and one for everyday use šŸ˜‰

4. Mizuno Wave Rider 17: I trained and ran my first half marathon in wave rider 16s so I’m a bit obsessed with these and love them. I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of the new 17s for next year’s race training goals.

5.Ā Road ID Slim: I tend to always run with my phone but if it’s crushed in a crash or you can’t unlock it, it, therefore, doesn’t say anything about me should I get into an accident. So even though this is a morbid gift it’s something I need to start wearing for runs.

6.Ā Mizuno Breath Thermo Wind Guard Gloves: I love winter running! I used Lululemon run gloves last winter with the touchpad fingers but found that I actually like to wear those every day so I can use my phone while standing waiting for the streetcar in the freezing cold. I need a hardcore pair of winter-run gloves and these look perfect!

7. Lululemon Toasty Tech Tights. I purchased these last year during boxing day sales and they have kept me so warm this winter. Lulu doesn’t seem to have them on their site yet so I eagerly anticipate their return.

8.Ā Jawbone: Although I’ve tried my hand at wearing a heart rate monitor and a Nike fuel band they don’t “do it all”. I’ve recently started seeing posts and news about Jawbone. It’s a band & an app that promises to track your activity, eating & sleeping which are all three integral parts of great health.

If you’re a runner, what’s on your holiday running wish list this year?

God’s Direction: Blessing Us With Two Beautiful God’s Direction: Blessing Us With Two Beautiful Babies At Once

God’s Protection: Providing for us after I was fired from 3 jobs in a row since I found out I was pregnant.

Story Time…

At the end of 2019, I signed a job contract that would move our family out to the west coast at the start of 2020. I resigned from the current job I was in and gave 30 days’ notice.

2 days later I found out I was pregnant. I took a call from the fertility clinic in the boardroom of the office I worked at (it was the only place I could take a private call to find out the good news). I was fired the next day (after already resigning) for taking a private call and was told to leave the premises immediately. I was told I would be paid for 2 weeks instead of the 4 weeks that I had offered them in my resignation.

Silver Lining: I fought their offer legally and was paid for the time I had offered them and got to spend a month at home sleeping during the first month of my twin pregnancy and packing for our move to the West Coast. The twin pregnancy was extremely exhausting on my body and I am grateful for the time I had to rest instead of working at one of the most toxic places of employment I’ve ever been at.

Fast forward to January 6, 2021. I had been on mat leave since the birth of our twins in July 2020 and I had offered to return after a 6 month mat leave. I contacted my boss in November of 2020, to ask to go for coffee and discuss how the business was going and what my return to work would look like. I was ignored for months and finally, he responded to me saying he’d be happy to meet and cc’d HR to coordinate. I thought that was weird as I was just asking to go for coffee. After 2 months of going back and forth and meetings being cancelled and rescheduled, I was finally asked to come into the main office in January of 2021. I thought I was meeting with my boss but was greeted by HR. The audio you hear in this reel is them letting me go while on mat leave without cause. I then found out my job was given to the woman who was covering for me while I was on leave. After filing a complaint with the human rights tribunal I settled out of court.

And don’t come at me with ā€œshe’ll start when she wants to startā€ cause we’ve been starting since last December. We’ve done everything from potty training charts, to giving up and putting her back in pull ups to praise to negative consequences. If I was American I’d say ā€œYa’ll were tired over hereā€ and doing a lot of laundry šŸ˜‚

When deciding how we wanted to spend the holidays When deciding how we wanted to spend the holidays with our little family of 4 we wanted to prioritize our love language ā€œTime Spent Togetherā€ so we created an activity advent Calendar to countdown the days to Christmas and do 1 activity a day as a family!

Here is our son picking the day 1 activity which was simply a Christmas Colouring Page 🄹 Can’t wait to see his reaction for some of the more engaging things!
