My grandmother bought me a Vitamix for Christmas this year. I picked it up from Costco this weekend and was so excited to make almond milk myself. Years ago I watched Joanne Gero’s video for vanilla almond milk and then just saw Coco & Co’s blog post about it and was newly inspired.
So a 1 litre glass bottle was purchased from Canadian Tire. I found cheesecloth at Pusateri’s at Bayview Village and a big bag of almonds from Costco was purchased.
Ingredients:
1 cup of almonds (soaked overnight in filtered water)
4 cups of filtered water
1 vanilla bean
Need: Blender & Cheesecloth
Directions:
1. Soak almonds in a bowl of filtered water overnight
2. Combine almonds and water in a blender. I used my new Vitamix. Blend on high.
3. Place cheesecloth over a bowl and pour milk into bowl through cloth. Squeeze milk out of bag. You will be left over with the pulp of the almonds. Rinse out Vitamix.
4. Pour milk back in, cut open a vanilla bean and scrape the insides into the milk. Blend.
5. Pour into glass bottle.
VOILA! Easy peasy! No more store bought almond milk! Easy on the pocket and no more preservatives. Slowly but surely I’m making even better decisions for my health and nutrition.
