Gift Guide For New Hunters

I’ve been researching gear and supplies as I started to hunt this year. I thought I would put together a wish list of things for new hunters that I’ve either acquired or want to get. So if you have a kid or an adult (like myself) getting into this hobby/past time/activity you have some great holiday gift ideas for them.

Books for New Hunters

I currently own both of the Steven Rinella books. I bought both the small game and the big game books as I’m starting with turkey hunting (small game) and deer hunting in the fall (big game). I’ve always been a fan of Eva Shockey so getting her book is definitely on the list for a future purchase.

Clothing

I was so lucky to get a Sitka jacket for Christmas so now I can’t wait to complete the outfit with matching pants and gloves in the future. The quality of the material, the warmth and the waterproofness are amazing.

Gear

I have really enjoyed hunting from a ground blind. I got a floor model on sale at Cabela’s that didn’t come with a box but did have the carrying bag so it’s been easy to bring it with me into the forest. I am just getting used to using a range finder and this was a great brand to start with. The binoculars are next on my list especially if I start hunting for wide-open areas where I can actually glass for animals.

Archery

I was so excited to become a bowhunter. Using the Excalibur last year was amazing. I still need to get the hang of de-cocking it after an unsuccessful hunt. I may have lost a few arrows by shooting them into the ground in a field instead of learning how to just un-cock the bow. LOL.

Other

Gun range or archery range memberships and definitely ammunition would be welcome gifts.

What else would you add to the gift list for new hunters?
