Drive to Start a Side Hustle

6 / 20 / 185 / 3 / 19

“Everyone wants to have one but so many people don’t want to do the work to actually have one” – Mike (Robyn’s Fiancé)

via GIPHY

When chatting with my fiancé about my Side Hustle blog series around confidence and time management he pointed out that it also requires having the “drive” to have one. If you want to catch up on the series here are links for Part 1 & 2.

Part 1: Confidence

Part 2: Time Management

Ok so moving onto drive… let’s look at the definition…

Do you have an urge to attain a goal?

It usually shows up as a little nudge. A thought in your head, a gut feeling or an idea that you can’t shake. Sometimes our brain will question it? Why would you start that blog, there are already 5 million blogs out there and just the other day I heard someone say blogging is dead. But I really love writing… ok maybe I’ll just post really long FB posts to satisfy my need to be creative.

Have you had this conversation with yourself?

Check. Ok.

Ok so then what does it take to fulfill that urge?

Motivation

Inspiration

Action

Gumption

Confidence

Time Management

I’ve given you the tools to develop Confidence and Time Management but you are going to need to dig deep to find your motivation, inspiration, gumption and then take inspired action to get er done.

Motivation & Inspiration come from your why.

Why do you want to start a blog/podcast? Why do you want to diversify your income with a part-time hustle? Why do you want to start a hand letting calligraphy business in your spare time and sell wooden boards to other brides? You start with your why and go from there.

My motivation for starting the Alpha Female Podcast came when I consistently got asked over and over again for tips and tricks on how to take care of myself. I would post things on the blog but I had an urge to use my voice and the spoken word. After being interviewed on The Tough Girl Podcast I got inspired to start my own. At the same time, there was a hate thread online about how I’ve chosen to take care of my MS holistically and one troll said “What Give Her The Right To Call Herself an Alpha Female!?” It made me think. What does give me the right? I am who I am. I tackle this world head on and I’m unapologetic about how I do it. There are others like me out there. So you know what. Let me make the term Alpha Female not just about me but feature other amazing Alphas and how they take care of themselves. Boom Inspiration. Then comes Inspired Action to take the steps to start.

People buy into your why. Why would they read your blog? Why would they listen to your podcast? It has to be so anchored in your why that it’s easy to share why they would “buy” into your side hustle!

I believe there are 2 kinds of whys. Your personal why and your business why. And you’re allowed to have both.

I started my doTERRA business with 2 whys. I get to share the gift of proactive health with others in a completely seamless way to how I was sharing on my blog & podcast before I started selling essential oils. My second reason was to replicate the income cut I took from moving from Toronto to Ottawa so our family wasn’t stressed about finances. Both drive me and both made me successful. You are allowed to have different reasons why you start a side hustle and every single reason is valid. There is so much focus in this world on the altruistic reasons that we are made to feel bad about wanting to earn money. I’ve been really diving into money blocks and mindset lately and am fascinated with the subject. There are so many ways that we train our brain to believe making money is a bad thing. I’ve for sure got lots of money blocks but what I’ve really truly come to realize is the more abundance I have in my life, the less stressed I am and the more good I can do in this world. And that makes me really freaking excited!

Listen to my episode on the Luscious Hustle Podcast where I announce why I want to make a “crap” ton of money!

So what’s driving you?

Write it down on a post it note and put it somewhere you can see it as you start that dang side hustle you’ve always wanted.

Time Management Skills for Side Hustlers

6 / 13 / 185 / 3 / 19

Last week we chatted about building confidence in starting a side hustle. This week I wanted to dive into my side hustle time management tips and tricks to help you really prioritize and focus on the daily and weekly tasks it takes to be consistent with side hustle building.

When someone tells me they don’t have time. I actually want to scream BULLSHIT in their face.

We all have time. We all have the same amount of time in a day. We are all completely in control of how we structure our days. So you actually can’t say you don’t have time. You can only say: “I’m sorry that’s not a priority for me right now.”

Ok so if that nagging voice in the back of your head has been asking you for a while to start that side hustle that you’ve been dreaming up for a while now. Here is how you can structure your morning, noon, night and bathroom breaks. Cause that’s the time we have as side hustlers.

Here is a view into where I get tasks done. This is going to be different for everyone but it’ll get you thinking on when you can have side hustle “office hours”.

5:00 – 7:00 am (2 Hours)

12:00 – 1:00 pm (1 Hour)

5:00 – 8:00 pm (3 Hours)

I technically have 6 hours a day, 30 hours a week (M – F) that I can dedicate to side hustles and other activities. You’ll need to know what are your chunks of “free” time so take a moment and write them out.

I mentioned bathroom breaks as a chunk of my time. But all jokes aside, my co-workers will see me in the office, I’ll get up from my desk (or walk away from it if it’s set to standing) and I’ll have my face glued to my phone as I walk to the bathroom. Chances are if I’m replying to comments on Instagram or a DM I’m on the can (full disclosure). You make the most of your free time right?!

via GIPHY

So there are 2 parts of time management. There is doing the tasks that will complete an objective you’ve already started and then there is balancing dreaming up and starting new projects. I’ll cover a little bit about how I do both.

The Brain Dump

On Sunday nights I write down all the things I have going on in my brain from errands I need to run to weekly side hustles tasks (write Monday blog, write Weds blog, upload podcast to Libsyn, schedule social media posts, etc).

From there I open my Danielle Laporte Weekly Planner (sold out for the year), grab a piece of blank paper and start planning out my long-term goals to short-term goals to monthly, weekly & daily tasks.

When starting a side hustle the brain dump is going to be really long and that’s ok. You have to write down absolutely everything you know you need to do to get started. Here’s an example of what I would write if I was starting to launch a podcast.

Podcast Brain Dump Example

  • Record First Interview
  • Create Cover Art
  • Get Libsyn Account
  • Buy Recording Software
  • Research Recording Software
  • Research Microphones
  • Buy Microphone (Ps. I use Apple Headphones because the quality is amazing and I just got started with them an never upgrade)
  • Buy Intro/Outro Music
  • Record Intro
  • Record Outro
  • Record Sponsorship Clip
  • Create Promo Template In Canva
  • Watch Free Podcast Course
  • Hire Podcast Editor on UpWork

Long-Term Goals

Once you have a brain dump of all the things you need to do to start your side hustle you first have to plan out the timing of your long-term goals for the year. The only reason why I bring this up is a side hustle hasn’t taken a priority for a while now because you haven’t made it a priority amongst your other life priorities so you need to map out where you will make it happen.

Simply write down all the major goals or life events that you have going on during the year. I’ll use my next 6 months for example and where I would map out starting a brand new podcast amidst the rest of 2018.

  • Wedding – August 2018
  • Honeymoon – August / September 2018
  • dōTERRA Convention – September 2018
  • Trail Half Marathon – October 2018
  • Christmas Holidays – December 2018

Knowing this I would take June & July to do all the tasks and get ready for a November 2018 Launch.

Short-Term Goals or Monthly Tasks

So once you have everything mapped out I like to break up the tasks into monthly tasks around your other short-term goals.

So I start with the monthly layout found in the planner:

I write down all the set in stone appointments and events in every single month from now until the end of the year.

Then on the scrap piece of paper, I take the brain dump and prioritize them. Depending on your organization style you can write down the month name beside each task or let’s say a 1 beside the first three things that need to get done. Here’s how I would group my tasks over the next few months (skipping August & September). Please note this is super simplified and doesn’t actually contain all the steps to launch a podcast but would give you a fairly good idea if that’s your side hustle you want to launch.

June
  • Watch Free Podcast Course
  • Research Microphones
  • Buy Microphone (Ps. I use Apple Headphones because the quality is amazing and I just got started with them an never upgrade)
  • Research Recording Software
  • Buy Recording Software
  • Record First Interview
July
  • Buy Intro/Outro Music
  • Record Intro
  • Record Outro
  • Record Sponsorship Clip
October
  • Create Cover Art
  • Get Libsyn Account
  • Create Promo Template In Canva
  • Hire Podcast Editor on UpWork
November
  • Publish First 2 Episodes on Libsyn
  • Submit Podcast to Apple Podcasts for Approval
  • Promote Launch!

Pre-Planning The Week – Weekly & Daily Tasks

So on Sunday night, I open my planner for the week. I write in all my workout’s for the week and any appointments I have (on the left hand side of the weekly planner pages – see example below) that are day & time based as those are non-negotiables for me. Then I write in things like coffee dates, dinner dates or date night with my fiancé. Then I write out 3 things I want to get done for the week (near the top of the left page). From there I write out 3 things a day. I personally only allow myself a to do list of 3 side hustle tasks a day.

Since I have 3 times block of time to get things done. I give myself 3 tasks a day so I can easily spread them out before work, at lunch or after work. If I get all three done in the morning that leaves my lunch hour for other things like wedding planning, going for a walk or texting a friend. Then I’ve got full gammit of the evening and can binge watch Riverdale on Netflix 🙂

So let me break down the rest of June and how I would get all the above brain dump tasks completed with the next 3 weeks.

w/o June 11 (Monday, Weds & Fri morning I’m in the gym from 5:30 – 6:30am so I only have 30 mins of free time in the morning. )

Mon – Watch 30 mins of Free Podcast Course

Tues – Watch 1 hour of Free Podcast Course

Weds – Research & Buy Microphones (Order on Amazon)

Thurs – Research Software

Weekend – Finish What’s Left of Free Podcast Course

w/o June 18

Tues – Reach out to 5 Podcast Guests (Email or Instagram DM)

Thurs – Reach out to 5 Podcast Guests

w/o June 25

Tuesday Lunch Hour – Schedule 1st Interview

I hope that gives you a really good idea of reverse engineering the large objective down to monthly & weekly & daily tasks in your free chunks of time.

Other Side Hustle Time Management Tips

Ok so on the road to getting organized here are 2 other things that should help!

Daily Focus

Some people do really well with focused days so you aren’t switching between actions. Here’s an example of how you can schedule focused tasks each day of the week. Then you choose when you get that done and in which chunk of time you have.

Monday – Podcast Guest Outreach (Emails)

Tuesday – Podcast Uploading (Working in Libsyn)

Wednesday – Podcast Promotion Creation (Working in Canva)

Thursday – Scheduling Podcast Promotion Images (Working in Hootsuite)

Friday – Record New Podcast Episode (Content Creation Mode)

Healthy Habits

Unfortunately, if you’re not taking care of yourself, going after your goals and dreams are doable but it will be a hard slog. My overachievers and type A hard workers I need you to not gloss over this paragraph. If you don’t have an amazing health care / self-care routine I urge you to tackle this first before even thinking about scheduling your side hustle tasks into your week. Why? Because burn out, fatigue and stress are all too real disease feeders and your side hustle should never cause dis-ease in your body.

So please have a movement or fitness routine well mapped out and feeling good and consistent. Have your meals and snacks planned out for the week. Your water intake needs to be on point and THEN and ONLY THEN tackle the side hustle!

Want more guidance? Get my Goal Digger Workbook for in-depth modules on planning out your entire year and getting your side hustles and goals completed with ease and less stress. Actually, enjoy making a to-do list again!

See you next week when I tackle the subject of getting the drive to launch a side hustle.

Develop Confidence to Start a Side Hustle

6 / 6 / 185 / 2 / 19

There are usually 3 things that hold someone back from starting a side hustle. I initially thought it was 2 but when chatting with my fiancé he brought up a third that I hadn’t even considered because I innately already had it and didn’t give it much thought.

Time to actually focus on the tasks that need to get done (we’ll save that for another blog), the confidence to leap and just do the damn thing and drive to just get er done (I’ll focus on that in 2 weeks!).

If you’ve scrolled endlessly through Instagram watching online coach after health coach or network marketer or artist or business coach or blogger or podcaster doing their thing and you’ve thought maybe I could do that too? This post is for you.

So you’ve had a glimpse of an idea start to take form but then you’ve stopped yourself because these questions usually follow:

  • What if nobody likes the thing I start?
  • What if I’m ridiculed?
  • What if I have to deal with online trolls?
  • What if no one reads/listens/pays attention to the content I produce?
  • What if no one will buy my product?
  • What if I lose friends?
  • What if I get fired from my full-time job?

I posted a poll on my Facebook yesterday asking people…

If you currently DO NOT have a side hustle what is the ONE thing holding you back from starting one?

A) Time To Focus On It

B) Confidence To Just Leap

I thought for sure I’d get 100% Time but there were a few votes for confidence. So I figured I’d start chatting with you about confidence today. But now I have content for 2 more blogs around time management and drive! 🙂

If you work full-time, do these questions sound familiar?

  • What if my employer fires me for starting something on the side?
  • What if my boss thinks I’m going to start doing side hustle action during my full-time hours and I get fired?
  • What if they think I want to become an entrepreneur and fire me before my side hustle even starts making me any money?

See a theme here around job security?

All valid thoughts and concerns. So how do you move past them?

Side hustling by definition means doing something on the side of your full-time job so I’m really going to dive deep into how to develop confidence as a corporate employee to diversify how you earn income.

First of all, I hope you know that having diversified income does not make you a poor employee.

Time management and how you make and manage your priorities will. So let’s get you that confidence to just start and then next week I can go over time management and prioritizing skills!

If you have had this nagging thought in your head for a while now about starting a blog, starting a podcast, saying yes to that amazing dōTERRA Wellness Advocate (ie. me) and starting an essential oil education business or creating something with your hands and selling it on Etsy just go do the darn thing already!

Stop questioning it, or analyzing all the steps, just friggen start. I’ll use simplified ways to start a side hustle the way that I did with my blog on RobynBaldwin.com, my Podcast – The Alpha Female Podcast and my network marketing biz w/ doTERRA.

How to Start a Blog

  1. Buy a domain name.
  2. Purchase Squarespace or a WordPress Theme, pay for a Hosting Platform and get the theme loaded.
  3. Create a content calendar of how many times a week you’d like to write? Once, twice, three times, more?
  4. Plan out 1 month of content.
  5. Spend 1 hour this week writing 3 blog posts.

How to Start a Podcast

  1. Decide on the format. Interview, solo episodes?
  2. Decide on the theme. What is your podcast going to be about?
  3. Name it.
  4. Create cover art.
  5. Purchase media hosting subscription (I use Libsyn).
  6. Figure out how you’re going to record. Record an episode and then take a free podcasting course on how to launch one 🙂

How to Start a dōTERRA Business

  1. Enroll as a wholesale customer and get your starter kit of oils.
  2. Use oils for one month and start educating yourself around them.
  3. Read the Build & Launch Guide made by dōTERRA.
  4. Ask to be added to my Business Leaders group so you can access the resources and trainings I’ve created for my team!
  5. Learn the simple steps to running the business, start sharing, presenting and enrolling

Ok so I’ve really simplified the steps to starting the 3 side hustles I had but when you think about it, it’s actually that easy. You start with an idea, start breaking down all the things you need to do and next week I’ll share how I schedule tasks and prioritize.

Ok so now that you can see how easily it can be to start a side hustle let’s address what’s holding you back from just leaping and pressing go?

When I look at the definition of confidence…

and I look at the bottom two bullet points, it has everything to do with you and nothing to do with anyone else. See most of the questions that we had above all had to do with what others think about us?

Confidence can be built. I truly believe that you can build it just like you build a muscle.

Here are 3 confidence building exercises using the examples of my 3 side hustles:

  1. Blog – Write a post on Medium and share it with your community to see how writing feels.
  2. Download Anchor and try out the broadcasting platform for the spoken word.
  3. Talk to your mom about how this essential oil has really helped you with “Insert Problem Here” and get used to speaking to someone else about them.

Read a good ol Confidence Book:

My favorites:

  • You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero
  • The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance—What Women Should Know by Katty Kay & Claire Shipman
  • Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brene Brown

I could keep going but then you’d still be reading this blog post instead of going out and starting the thing you want to start.

*Slaps your ass* [Insert Motivational Slogan Here]

See you next week, same day, the same blog but next time we’ll chat about time management skills for side hustling!

10 Reasons to Build a Side Hustle with dōTERRA

10 / 18 / 175 / 18 / 20

Disclaimer: I’m sharing my personal experience building a side hustle with dōTERRA and do not make any claims on earning potential. Earning levels for doTERRA Wellness Advocates that appear in this publication are examples and should not be construed as typical or average. Income level achievements are dependent upon the individual Wellness Advocate’s business skills, personal ambition, time, commitment, activity, and demographic factors.

What if you don’t want to quit your full-time job?

What if you enjoy your corporate career?

What if you simply want to diversify your income and create an abundant side hustle?

I had blogging for years. I started this little place on the internet in 2009. I started posting on social media regularly and all of a sudden companies started reaching out to me, asking me to post about their brands & products. I took in a few paychecks here and there or received product in exchange for my promotion and thought, “hey that’s cool.” I started a podcast in 2016 and threw up a couple of affiliate marketing sponsorship clips in the episodes. However, that was the extent of my monetization.  When I sat down at the end of the year to do my expenses and revenue tracking (for self-employment income) for tax time I realized how much money I was pouring into my side hustles and barely any return on investment.

Bloggers or Podcasters does this sound familiar?

My full-time job was paying for my passions. Which is fine and dandy but I was conflicted. Was it ok to want to create a viable side hustle income? I was a little scared of what my full-time gig might think. That I might not be as productive or put as much effort in. Which would never be the case but was a warranted fear.

So along came dōTERRA … Which is my second foray into network marketing. My first involvement failed miserably. I wasn’t ready for the hard work. I didn’t understand it and I didn’t have a great mentor to guide me along the way. I floundered, failed and grew a bitter taste in my mouth for the word MLM or network marketing. Cue Ange Peters showing up in my life several years later, with warmth, authenticity, reality, tough love and loving guidance. I watched how she was living her life. How she was setting an example for her community and family and building a beautiful home life. I was curious and dove into the business model for dōTERRA, started using the products (and fell in love) and when I made the move from Toronto to Ottawa and took a paycut in my full-time income I decided to see if I could replicate that cut with my side hustle.

Cue hard work, research, putting in countless hours in the morning, on lunch hours and in evenings and I was able to build to a level in the business that replicated the income I had lost in my full-time gig. For me that was success!

I loved that my hard work was paying off. Network marketing is a meritocracy that was showing me that my success was directly relevant to the time I put in. I wasn’t blinded by promises of residual income and passive income coming easily. I knew that I would have to get out of my comfort zones and talk to people and share and be of service to be successful.

And I was excited that all this work around sharing how I take care of myself was something that was the basis, the building blocks of my work with dōTERRA. I wasn’t trying to fit myself into a mold of someone I wasn’t. It was so perfectly integrated into how I was already showing up in the world.

While blogging & podcasting are still my passions, I’m so grateful that I don’t have to worry about how I  pay for them (because of my full-time income). I can invest in systems and tools to make posting free content easier and then invest my time that I free up from automation back into content creation and serving.

SO HOW DOES THIS APPLY TO YOU!?

Whether you simply want to pay for a monthly order or oils, create enough income to pay for certain passions in your life (may it be blogging or traveling during the year), the sky is completely what you choose to go after. There are people in our business model who put in part-time hours and there are those in the business who are invested and all in to build a full-time business that serves their customers with solutions they are looking for.

I love the possibilities that this side hustle has brought into my life. I love that in a year I’ve been able to see sustainable success. However, my be all and end all favourite thing about this business is when a customer lets me know how the oils have helped them. But the combination together is just simply amazing and sometimes we shy away from saying that. I’m proud of what I’ve built and am excited for what I’m building in the future.

If you’re curious about the business model, compensation structures or how to get started. I’m only an email away. Fire one my way to robynbaldwin@gmail.com.

And if you need a bit more information…

Here are my Top 10 Reasons to Build a Side Hustle with dōTERRA:

  1. The company is completely debt free and teaches how to get out of debt with their Free to Give program
  2. What other side hustle can you invest in the monthly business expenses that will better your home, self care practice and beauty regime at the same time?
  3. The company has a high customer retention ratio
  4. Little saturation in North America and many other countries.
  5. Because you are ready to be a part of a health care revolution that empowers people to be proactive with their health
  6. The idea of setting income goals and achieving them excites you!
  7. By purchasing products you are creating sustainable success for farmers around the world (many in 3rd world countries) who rely on doTERRA’s pay.
  8. Because bringing your diffuser to your full time job can benefit all those around you. I’ve had coworkers ask for me to diffuse Motivate during busy seasons!
  9. Because you can choose how many hours you put in towards this job (you create your schedule), it’s purely volunteer and allows you to flex some entrepreneurial spirit at the same time without creating your own company, product or service!
  10. Because who are you not to build and diversify your income outside of your full-time job?!

Network Marketing Myths

4 / 11 / 166 / 8 / 22

Disclaimer: If you are against networking marketing or MLMs and are not open to the business idea this may change your mind. If you don’t want your mind changed close this window now and continue along your internet journey.

This post was inspired by Nicole Walter’s Periscope. On March 23rd, she demystified Networking Marketing (also known as Multi-Level Marketing or MLM) myths on her live broadcast and it was epic. I’ve been spending the past month researching an essential oil company as I’ve been using the essential oils for over 2 years and started to get curious about if the business side would be a great fit for my personal brand.

Many years ago I had tried out networking marketing and had a bad experience so I have adamantly said I would never join an MLM ever again. So if anything, I was the biggest non-believer in-network or multilevel marketing you could find.  I would posts status updates asking MLMers to stop asking me to join and I would use the ever-popular group think the term of “oh that’s just another pyramid scheme.” Until recently, I truly bought into every single myth about MLMs until I started doing the research. I started looking at the amazing women (& men) currently doing it as a business and wanted to understand why I had limiting beliefs about aspects of the business model.

So without further ado here are 4 myths or confused beliefs about network marketing and why my opinion has changed. I truly believe that when you are ready for incorporating this type of business part-time or full-time into your life you’ll be all in.

MLM

CONFUSED BELIEF #1 Network marketers aren’t brave enough (or are too scared) to start their own business

TRUTH: Due to networking marketing having the worst stigma around, Nicole stated that she actually thinks those who start an MLM business are the bravest to jump into this type of business with such strong beliefs against them. When you align with a company and product you believe in and works for you personally then you can easily say that you’re choosing a resource that you believe in and matches your personal brand. There are so many with entrepreneurial mindsets who want to create abundance in their life but aren’t necessarily born creators. MLM companies with an amazing product are a great fit for born communicators and curators who can organize and present information in an easy way and that’s why it looks like a great fit for me personally.

CONFUSED BELIEF #2 Oh MLM, oh you mean pyramid scheme!?!

TRUTH: This video below is slightly robotic but hilarious and has great points. I love the point that if you work in a corporate job then the structure of the company is technically a pyramid. I have chosen to work in the corporate world since the start of my career in 2005. I work hard, get paid for my time, sell products and those “above me” make more money. So the decision to work hard, to share products with those who want them, and potentially earn incremental more than a salary is quite enticing and exciting for those where the business model resonates with them. If it doesn’t resonate then you simply aren’t ready. Which is what I was for years! I just wasn’t ready until my mindset was ready to change.

CONFUSED BELIEF #3 You know you’re not going to make millions

TRUTH: Joining an MLM is about creating another income stream for yourself. You have the ability to put in hard work and see the results. You can supplement a full-time income and do the work part-time or you can make it your full-time business. It’s completely up to the individual to structure their business and their time according to their goals.

The truth is that someone in MLM is out there trying to diversify the income. That is smart and necessary in today’s economy. So whether their goal is to make millions or simply enough income as a side hustle to live a comfortable life with ease all the power to them.

CONFUSED BELIEF #4 The products don’t really work

TRUTH: First of all the company would get shut down if the products weren’t ok for the market. Second of all, you should always start off as a customer of a company and actually see if that product works for you and if you actually have a passion for what they can do in your life before choosing the business side. This is true of brand ambassador work as well.

I’ve been approached by so many network marketers as an online influencer. Every single time I’d review the product ingredients and could immediately tell that I couldn’t support the product or even talk about it in an authentic way. So in the past, I was never a big believer in the product and if I was a believer in the product I didn’t like how I was approached and that it was all about the business and less about the product.

After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in December of 2014 and always researching how my body has been affected or could be affected I decided to decrease my stress and anxiety as my number one priority. In my journey of living with this sidekick, I’ve also overhauled my nutrition, optimized my supplements, began fixing my digestive system and began reducing the toxins in my home.

I won a sample pack of essential oils from 12 days of Christmas giveaway on Instagram in 2014 a few short weeks after being diagnosed. To help reduce stress & ease muscle pain from my obstacle course race training I developed a habit of having an epsom salt bath every night before bed. I started using the oils by putting 3 drops of the lavender oil in my nightly baths. I quickly ran out of the lavender oil and started buying lavender essential oil from the drug store. I used it but it just didn’t seem as fragrant. I also didn’t know the difference. I used the essential lemon oil sample bottle slowly over the course of a year. I was travelling extensively for obstacle course races on weekends in 2015 and wanted to ensure I was still able to have my morning routine of warm lemon water every day to clean out my system before starting the day. For races in the US, I couldn’t take actual lemons across the border so I threw the lemon oil in my bag and started using it with one drop in my warm water in the morning. The 3rd bottle in the sample pack was peppermint. After watching a Periscope with my business mentor, Ange Peters, I discovered that I could throw the small peppermint bottle into my purse and use it as a pick me up when I was tired. I started diluting it in fractionated coconut oil, rubbing my hands together, inhaling the aroma and also placing it on my temples to help restore alertness.

Over the holidays last year, I decided to purchase a starter kit so I could start using more oils in my home. At the same time, I started educating myself on how they are sourced, how their made, and their many uses and benefits. In their simplest function, essential oils simply make my home smell divine and help me relax.  I love that I have tools in my life that I can add to my overall health care plan which is a perfect complement to everything I’m doing to take care of myself.

If you’re curious about how I’ve incorporated essential oils into my life you can read more HERE. I just wanted this post to really be about how I’ve worked through limiting beliefs about network marketing as I dive into diversifying my income with a company whose products I love.

Perusing the local Facebook Mom's Groups I was sho Perusing the local Facebook Mom's Groups I was shocked to hear how many moms are on anti-depressants.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I do not know their situations. I do not know the depth of their mental health issues. And I won't pretend to. But I do know my own. I do know I gave birth during a pandemic. I do know I experienced isolation and stress. I do know that I was diagnosed with PTSD from birth trauma. I do know that I had postpartum depression and anxiety. I do know that I pictured walking out of our front door and never coming home. I do know that I pictured what my husband and kid's lives would be like without me in it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I know the pain and I KNOW it took an army of holistic solutions to pull me out of the depths of that depression. It wasn't one thing. It was everything.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was the group talk therapy I went to weekly. It was focusing on getting a full 8 hours of sleep. It was morning meditation instead of IG scrolling. It was somatic breathwork. It was leaning on my husband and family for support. It was hiring a nanny. It was ensuring I spend time daily in self-care. It was asking for help.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here if you want to talk or figuring how to incorporate different things into your life to support you.
During our Values Reset retreat we did dream about During our Values Reset retreat we did dream about which vehicles we want to drive. I've never been one to really get obsessed with a make and model. I leave that to my husband.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, I do value having vehicles with a high resell value so it makes it easier to buy new vehicles every few years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I also added travel to this values statement because I want a life of variety and I want to gift that to our kids so I thought it would be fun to focus on different methods of transportation as we plan trips over the coming years with them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I thought I’d share this now as we started shopping for a new large SUV that can fit both kids, both dogs and bags for road trips to the cottage and North Bay.
Here is how we value our family.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My favourite part of this statement is our "we grow relationships individually within the family" and this is why once a month we book a mommy/daughter | daddy/son date and then a mommy/son date | daddy/daughter date!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ps. This is a monthly Asana task for me at the beginning of the month to book into our calendars so we make it happen.

I wake up before the sun to meditate, journal and I wake up before the sun to meditate, journal and workout.

We wake the babes and spend slow morning eating breakfast and cuddling.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My husband and I walk the dogs when our nanny arrives so we can get morning sunlight.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I work a full time job in Web3 that’s lights me up. I get to build my dōTERRA business in a way that lights me up. Ps. It’s BOGO week this week and I get to partake in passion projects like publishing a book around thriving with an autoimmune disease in my spare time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I get to hug my babies multiple times a day, walk or run out of my home office when the twins need me and kiss them before they go for walks or naptime.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Right now my time values and how I spent my day are pretty aligned. There are a few things I want to upgrade.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I want to get to a point where I’m working out midday. And I’d like to get down to a 3-4 day work week.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How do you want to spend your time?
