Essential Oils and Human Design Energy Types

10 / 27 / 2110 / 30 / 21

I’ve become fascinated with Human Design over the past year. So fascinated that I asked Human Design guides to come on the Alpha Female Podcast to chat about different aspects of Human Design. And then as an essential oil educator, I couldn’t help but want to draw the connection between essential oils and how they can support the different Human Design energy types.

There 5 different Human Design energy types: Generators, Manifesting Generators, Manifestors, Projectors, and Reflectors. To understand how essential oils can support each energy type, I’ll do a quick overview of each energy type before sharing three essential oils for each energy type and how and when to use the oils.

Essential-Oils-and-Human-Design

Essential Oils for Human Design Type – Generators

Generators are around 70% of the population which also includes Manifesting Generators. They are known as the driving life force on the planet.

I’m a Generator so I know this energy very well. Generators can have endless energy when they are doing something that they love and lights them up. It can create a workaholic type vibe though so they have to get really good at creating work/life harmony for themselves and knowing when to turn on and turn off.

Lavender is the perfectly oil to use to wind down from the day. You can use it in your bedroom diffuser before going to sleep or in an Epsom Salt bath to signal to the body that it’s time to relax and get ready for bed.

The next oil is Clove which is the Oil of Boundaries. Generators strategy in life is to respond so when someone invites us to participate in something we have the choice to say yes or no. And sometimes because of how we were raised or our life circumstances we may have said yes to things that don’t light us up. Clove assists in helping individuals to stand up for themselves. I would recommend using this in diffuser blends in your office environment. Here are a few blends to try:

Sunshine: 3 drops Clove, Cheer and Peppermint each

Freshly Fallen Snow: 3 drops Clove and 2 drops of Cardamom and Copaiba each

Last but not least, the Align blend from dōTERRA’s yoga collection is perfect as the Centering Blend. This blend allows individuals to focus on self-acceptance during quiet moments so they can move forward from a more conscious and clear space. This allows generators to get really clear on what lights them up in the world, what brings them joy so they can focus on this in their daily lives.

Essential Oils for Human Design Type – Manifesting Generators

I believe Manifesting Generators are around 32% of the population but would have been included in the 70% above. This energy type is meant to respond to life by initiating energy.

Manifesting Generators are meant to work creatively with their energy on projects that light them up so I included Tangerine and Citrus Bliss as they are the Oils of Spontaneity and Creativity, respectively. When looking for the inspiration for the next project, popping these in the diffuser could be exactly what they might need.

I wanted to balance out these oils with Lemon Eucalyptus, the Oil of Protected Space. When you are in the flow you need to feel self-contained and protected from external energies.

I would use this diffuser blend in a home office space before starting work on a new project:

Crystal Clear: 3 drops of Lemon Eucalyptus and 2 drops of Breathe (Easy Air in Canada) and Lime each

Essential Oils and Human Design - Tangerine
Essential Oils and Human Design - Lemon Eucalyptus
Essential Oils and Human Design - Citrus Bliss

Essential Oils for Human Design Type – Projectors

Projectors are around 20% of the population. When they are invited in to be a guide they are at their best selves. They do not have the energy that generators posses.

Because Projectors are so focused on guiding others I thought it best that they get grounded in themselves first with Bergamot, the Oil of Self-Acceptance. This oil can help us move towards feelings of self-acceptance, optimism, confident, hopeful , lovable and good enough. I would use this oil in meditation and use as a purefume before meeting with others who have invited you in.

A Projector’s energy can become very focused so I thought Lemon, the Oil of Focus would be an amazing companion for a Projector. Popping this in the diffuser before starting a work day or putting a drop in your hands and taking a big inhale before sitting down for meditation.

Because Projector’s are not designed to keep up with Generator type energy they need a little boost at times. When they have accepted the right invitation they can access vast energy resources. I would only use Peppermint to boost your energy when you are aligned with a choice. Pop this in the diffuser or rub on your pulse points before a meeting.

Essential Oils for Human Design Type – Manifestors

Manifestors are 9% of the population. I should know more about this energy type as I’m married to a Manifestor but I feel like I’m just starting to understand this energy type. They are here to inform and they are constantly looking for peace in their world. They are constantly manifesting new ideas but lack the focus sometimes to execute on them.

I picked Motivate as an oil for diffusing when brainstorming or working on specific ideas so that they can follow their string of inspiration towards aligned action.

Because their strategy is to inform, I’ve also choosen Spearmint the Oil of Confident Speech for them. This oil will be particularly important for a Manifestor who hasn’t learned to trust their voice or doesn’t feel comfortable informing others. By literally applying this to the throat before a conversation could be game changing.

And last but not least, this energy type needs long periods of rest and what better way to mark the need for rest than by grabbing Peace and popping it in the diffuser in whatever room you are resting in.

Essential Oils for Human Design Type – Reflectors

Reflectors are extremely rare and only 1% of the population. I would really like to meet on! I like how they are explained as wise observers to life. They must wait full moon circles before making decisions to ensure they are their own and not absorbed by the ones around them. They are extremely adapt in understanding how communities work.

I chose Siberian Fir for it’s properties around having perspective. Siberian Fir can support an individual looking to find meaning and purpose with each new chapter of life. I heard a Human Design guide describe this energy type as one that incredibly helpful to guide leaders because they can observe what’s going on around them and provide that perspective to others.

Next, I chose Cypress, the Oil of Motion & Flow, because I feel like that’s exactly what the energy type must do in this life. Be perfectly adaptable and or spontaneous. Cypress supports individuals in casting aside worries and enjoying the thrill that can come with being alive.

Last but not least, I included the Thinker roller bottle from the Kid’s Collection. I included this oil blend because it’s also described as an oil that helps individuals focus in a world of distractions and competiting priorities which could pull a Reflector in so many directions.

As always these can be used in a diffuser, in the pam of your hand for inhaling or in the case of the roller bottle, rolled across the pulse points or on the neck.

New dōTERRA Products – Convention 2021

9 / 13 / 215 / 12 / 22

One of my favourite times of the year is announcing the new dōTERRA products released at their annual convention. And this year is no different. While I’m watching the convention virtually this year, I couldn’t be more excited about the new product lineup! It’s definitely a high point to 2021.

Here is the quick synopsis. They launched 1 brand new oil (Madagascar Vanilla), 1 brand new oil blend (abōde), an oil that launched last year is now a permanent product (Tulsi – Holy Basil) and one oil is now in the roller bottle format (Copaiba Touch). In addition to that, they launched a brand new format for Deep Blue in a stick format with Copaiba in the formula, OnGuard+ chewable tablets, and a brand new home cleaning line under the abode blend which includes a surface cleaner, hand wash, hand lotion, dish soap, dishwasher pods, and laundry pods! So let’s get a little more in-depth into each product and how you can use them.

The most amazing part of the new cleaning line is sustainability. Essential Oils for the Fourth Trimester

11 / 3 / 205 / 17 / 22

Disclaimer: I personally use essential oils to support my body during pregnancy and after birth. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration or Health Canada. I’m sharing my personal experience with the oils. As always, please consult with your health care team when incorporating new products into your health care routine.

I get asked all the time which essential oils I used during pregnancy and which essential oils I’m using now that the twins are born. I did a round-up of oils that I used throughout the trimesters. You can read about the oils I used during my first trimester here, second trimester here, and third trimester here. And now to round out these posts here are the essential oils I used during the fourth trimester (or the first three months with the twins’ earthside!)

Essential Oils for Fourth Trimester

While each trimester was hard in it’s own right, NOTHING prepared me for how hard the fourth trimester would be.

Healing The Perineum: I put together a spray bottle with Frankincense, Geranium, Lavender, and Sandalwood. I used an empty 15ml and purchased spray tops for 15 ml bottles from Amazon. I packed this in my hospital bag in anticipation of a vaginal birth. Because of the episiotomy, (you can read my birth story here) I ended using the whole bottle while we were in the hospital for 2 weeks. I even made a second bottle when I got home. It helped immensely with healing and when I went to see my OB at 4 weeks post-birth she had great things to say about how I was healing!

Perineum Spray

DIY Padsicles: I made a batch of Padsicles to help heal my vagina should I be successful in giving birth vaginally and boy did I need them. I didn’t end up using all of them as I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and they gave me padsicles there. By the time we got home, Mike’s parents were at our house and I just didn’t think to go to the freezer and then back into the bathroom to put them on. I ended up gifting most of these to a new momma to be in town.

Stress: There is just no way around it. Having twins and taking care of them is stressful. There are some days when I really forget to take deep breaths. I have an Adaptive roller bottle in my bathroom. Everytime I go pee, I roll this onto my wrists and take a big inhale.

Adaptiv

Milk Production: I made a roller during my third trimester to support milk production. I keep this by my bedside and roll it on before bed. It includes Clary Sage, Basil, Fennel, and Geranium essential oils.

Milk Production

Sleep: I have a diffuser beside the bed where I’m diffusing OnGuard and Easy Air to support my immune system. Other nights I will diffuse Serenity or Adaptiv so I can calm my mind and get as much sleep as possible in between feeds.

If you used oils in your fourth trimester what did you find helped?

Essential Oils for Labour & Birth

8 / 25 / 205 / 17 / 22

Disclaimer: I personally use essential oils to help support my body during pregnancy. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration or Health Canada. I’m sharing my personal experience with the oils. As always, please consult with your healthcare team when incorporating new products into your healthcare routine.

I’m getting asked all the time which essential oils I used during my pregnancy so I thought I’d do a round-up of oils that I used throughout the trimesters and during labour & birth. You can read about the essential oils I used during my first trimester here, second trimester here, and third trimester here.

Here are some of the blends I pre-made to prep for labour and after birth of the twins. For each of these blends, I cleaned empty 15 mL or 10 mL bottles by soaking them in water & lemon essential oil to remove the labels.

Final Countdown

I put this blend together to encourage my body to prep for labour. And while I wasn’t able to encourage my body to go into early labour when I was induced my contractions were quite easy to manage on the first day.

Recipe: 10 drops of Clary Sage, Ginger, Lavender, Lemon and AromaTouch dōTERRA essential oils. Top 15 mL bottle with fractionated coconut oil.

Back Labour Support

I whipped this up at our Nanaimo Doula’s suggestion for back labour pain. On the first day of induction I experience one contraction that was a 10 out of 10 on the pain scale with incredible back pain. I had Mike rub it on my back to help ease the pain.

Perineal Spray

I made a batch of this up in case we were able to have a successful vaginal delivery. After delivering the babes both vaginally and undergoing a forcep delivery and an episiotomy I was so glad that I made this and brought this with me to the hospital. I used it up in one week and have already made 2 more batches.

I also picked up spray bottle toppers on Amazon so I could easily spray it on my perineum.

BUY IN THE US

BUY IN CANADA

Recipe: 20 drops each of Geranium, Frankincense, Sandalwood and Lavender dōTERRA Essential Oils. Top with fractionated coconut oil. I would add Roman Chamomile too but I was out of that oil at the time of making the first bottle.

Perineum Spray

Milk Supply

I worried about having enough milk come in to feed the twins. I’m glad I made this up because due to all my birth complications my body has struggled and is struggling to bring in a full milk supply. I’m using this daily and sometimes several times of day (when I remember) and rubbing this on my breasts after breast feeding.

Recipe: 20 drops each of Clary Sage, Basil, Fennel and Geranium dōTERRA Essential Oils. Top with fractionated coconut oil.

What Oils Did I Bring In My Hospital Bag?

I also brought my Frankincense & Neroli roller bottles and Copaiba. I rolled Frankincense and Neroli on my wrists and palms to inhale as I was wheeled into the OR to birth the babes. I used Frankincense on Alora’s scalp to help heal the small mark from the scalp electrode heart rate monitor and I used Copaiba post birth to help manage pain.

If you use any of these recipes let me know! If you used any other essential oils for labour and birth let me know!

Essential Oils for the Third Trimester

7 / 30 / 205 / 17 / 22

Disclaimer: I personally use essential oils to help support my body during pregnancy. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration or Health Canada. I’m sharing my personal experience with the oils. As always, please consult with your health care team when incorporating new products into your health care routine.

I’m getting asked all the time which essential oils I’m using in my pregnancy so I thought I’d do a round-up of oils that I’m using throughout the trimesters. You can read about the oils I used during my first trimester here and second trimester here. Here are the oils I used during my third trimester.

Essential Oils for Third Trimester

The third trimester in a twin pregnancy was by far the hardest trimester. I don’t think I was truly prepared for how uncomfortable I’d be.

Heartburn: Last semester I talked about purchasing Ginger Gravol (US Amazon Link) or (Canadian Amazon Link) at my midwife’s recommendation. However, even that wasn’t working some nights. So I went back to essential oils and applied Digestzen/Zengest & Ginger in fractionated coconut oil to my esophagus and that brought immense relief.

Stretchmarks: I managed to make it until week 36 until the stretch marks appeared, so in addition to using the Body Butter & Yarrow | Pom I have been applying Immortelle and Helichrysum to my belly at night before bed.

Natural Labour Induction: I made my own blend of essential oils and have been applying them to my ankles under the ankle bone from week 37 until our induction date. The blend included Clary Sage, Lemon, Lavender, Ginger, AromaTouch.

Anxiety: With the impending birth, I was anxious at times and dealing with personal and work stress. So I would reach for my Adaptiv roller constantly and apply to my pulse points, the palms of my hands and then take a moment for a deep inhale and exhale to ground myself.

What essential oils did you find helpful in your third trimester?

Dear MS, I kind of forgot you existed. It’s been Dear MS,
I kind of forgot you existed.
It’s been 9 years since you showed up in my life, 4 years since I’ve experienced symptoms and I am now having my first relapse since my diagnosis. I heard you. I’m well aware you’re still around. But you’re not really my main squeeze. You’re like an ex that you think about once in a blue moon. Reminding me of all the ways I didn’t take care of myself like I can & do today.
You brought me to my knees this morning in tears. The result of reading MRI results at 6 am.
I’ve let myself grieve the results of the new lesions on my spine today. I’ve cried, stared into space and I’ve let myself worry. I’ve run through all the worst-case scenarios and asked Mike to provide me calming validation I would have support in case they were to ever happen because my monkey brain needs it. So tonight, I’ll run an Epsom salt bath with essential oils. I’ll plug in my phone away from our bedroom and I’ll curl up with a book and turn off the lights before 9pm.

And tomorrow I’ll go into research mode. There is so much to learn about EBV in my B cells and how it may be reactivated and causing this flare. I read the research when it came out but I didn’t really pay attention. I consulted a naturopath who gave me a few tinctures that I never ended up finishing.

Despite the tears and the worry. I KNOW deep down I’m going to be ok. I KNOW I will be fine. I KNOW I can take care of myself in a holistic way so that this doesn’t happen again. I have that much FAITH in my ability to heal myself. And with a healthcare team, I’ll get to the bottom of it.

There are so many things I’m trying to heal right now. Its truly overwhelming at times… from
- Liver Support
- Iron Overload
- EBV & B Cell Research
- Reduce Inflammation
- Shed PostPartum Weight
- Heal Pelvic Floor Prolapse
- Heal Bruised Rib
- Heal Sinus Cold

I know that I have to focus on baby steps and do one thing at a time to bring back my vitality.

I just needed to list all of the things I’m tackling so they don’t reside on a to-do list just in my brain. Ok plugging in my phone and am off to start my delicious evening routine so I can approach tomorrow feeling fresh.
One day he won’t want to cuddle with me so I’m One day he won’t want to cuddle with me so I’m soaking it in and capturing the memory
