Essential Oils For Multiple Sclerosis

4 / 12 / 175 / 31 / 22

Disclaimer: I personally use essential oils to help support my body in healing and supporting my immune system. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration or Health Canada. My comments are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. I simply use essential oils as a tool to assist my body in natural healing processes. As always, please consult with your health care team when incorporating new products into your treatment.

Ok since we’ve got that fancy disclaimer out of the way, I wanted to share how I, an MS Warrior (I like to call myself an MS Thriver nowadays) use essential oils. I’ve been asked in countless DMs and tagged in countless FB groups about how I personally use essential oils for multiple sclerosis, my health sidekick. So here is how I personally have incorporated essential oils for MS and support my body as it lives with confused T cells.

I believe in taking care of myself through the 6 pillars of health: nutrition, supplementation, movement, sleep, stress management, and reducing toxic load. This is how I use essential oils in each of these pillars of health:

Nutrition

I have chosen to follow the autoimmune paleo protocol. Here is a blog post I’ve written on my autoimmunethriving.com website about what it is and more. I use essential oils in my cooking and baking. I substitute essential oils for herbs like basil in stews, lime essential oil for fresh lime or lime juice in things like guacamole, and Madagascar vanilla for vanilla extract in decaf coffee or baking.

Supplementation

Once I figured out nutrition, I worked and currently work with a naturopath to figure out a supplementation plan based on deficiencies that I can’t get from nutrition. I get regular bloodwork done to figure out what vitamins and minerals I’m deficient in. I take the dōTERRA Lifelong Vitality supplements as a baseline all-around multivitamin and then supplement additionally where needed. I also take the Copaiba Softgels and Tumeric Duo Capsules.

Movement

I’m just a happier version of myself when I work out or move my body daily. Movement for me could be anything from a weight workout, to cardio, to a simple walk after dinner. I use Deep Blue on sore muscles, I take Deep Blue Polyphenols if I’m extra sore (a heavy leg workout usually brings on 3 days of soreness), and I bring AromaTouch when I go to see my RMT for a monthly massage.

Sleep

I believe that we can support our immune system simply by getting quality and an appropriate amount of sleep. Every night, I try different “concoctions” in our bedroom diffuser to improve our sleep. I love just Lavender or Serenity and then if I’m craving something not so floral I’ll put Cedarwood in the diffuser. If I’m struggling to fall asleep I’ll also take a Serenity Softgel complex before bed.

Stress Management

I believe our body’s reaction to stress is so detrimental to our health. I’m the type of person that really doesn’t do well with emotional stress and I’m still figuring that out on a daily basis. I love using oils in my home office to the kitchen to diffuse oils based on emotional aromatherapy. I use citrus oils to uplift my mood to grounding ones when I feel a whole bunch of crazy coming on. I love our calming blend Adaptiv and I also take the capsules if I need extra support feeling my feelings.

Reducing Toxic Load

I love that I have been able to slowly transition toxic products from cleaners to laundry detergent to a more DIY cleaner ingredient-based. I love making up my own DIY cleaning sprays with water, vinegar, and lemon essential oil and using dōTERRA laundry detergent or my own concoction. dōTERRA also launched the new abode line this year

In addition, to supporting myself through the 6 pillars of health I am also specifically focused on reducing inflammation in my body which is a common theme for those living with autoimmune disease.

Reducing Inflammation

I believe that by reducing inflammation in my body I support my cells so that they don’t get confused. I do this by nutrition (eating an AIP-based meal plan), using spices like turmeric powder in cooking and drinking juice like tart cherry juice. These are just a few things I do to reduce inflammation (above and beyond removing gluten, dairy, and nightshade veggies from my diet). I also ensure I take rest days after hard workouts, ice baths after streneous physical exercise and I love to take nightly Epsom salt baths. I love adding Lavender or Frankincense to the bath and I will apply Turmeric or Copaiba topically to areas of concern.

Immune System Support

Last but not least, this school of thought can be very polarizing in the MS community. Since MS is an auto-immune disease and has to do with our immune system attacking itself many believe that “boosting” our immune system will boost the T cells that attack our myelin sheath. I’m very careful with words and actually never use the words boosting an immune system.

I personally am of the school of thought that if I can keep my immune system optimized and strong I simply need to make sure that my T cells won’t have a chance to become confused by toxins or sickness and attack my body. I very rarely get colds now that I take care of myself differently. Since I have chosen to not take a DMD / DMT (MS drugs) I don’t worry about how supporting my immune system will affect me. For those on DMD’s which suppress the immune system, I can understand why there is a fear in “boosting” the immune system which could cause it to increase its attack on the body. This choice will be so personal for everyone in how they choose to support their body in healing.

I support my immune system by diffusing OnGuard and Breathe (called Easy Air in Canada) in our bedroom diffuser if I feel a cold coming on. I’ll make garlic tea with Oregano essential oil, suck on OnGuard lozenges, I’ll apply OnGuard directly to the bottoms of my feet (for easy absorption), I’ll drink lots of water and tea and get adequate and ample sleep!

Diffuser Blends for Spring

3 / 29 / 176 / 1 / 22

Spring is in the Air. Literally!

Here are a few blends I’m going to try out to bring Spring to my office diffuser over the next few weeks!

You’ll notice a trend. In three of the 4 blends, I’m using Geranium? But why, you may ask.

My Essential Life book talks about how Geranium, when used aromatically, assists the body from going from feeling Neglected (a feeling we may definitely be feeling after the long winter) to feeling Mended.

And in my Modern Essentials book lists Geranium’s primary aromatic uses for agitation, air cleansing, physical stress, and aiding in PMS support.

I’ve also found some other delicious sounding blends so I’ve started a Diffuser Blends Board on Pinterest if you’d like to follow along.

dōTERRA 2017 East Coast Leadership Recap

3 / 22 / 176 / 8 / 22

My mind is still reeling from dōTERRA East Coast Leadership Retreat. My time spent in Orlando at the beginning of March was so motivational, heartwarming and invigorating.

I arrived late in Orlando on Feb 28. My business bestie, Char McGie, graciously let me stay with her for the week and sent her patient husband to come to pick me up at the airport. I say, patient, because he was so kind, despite our flight being stuck at the gate for an hour. Another Canadian wellness advocate, Kelsey Reidl, was staying with Char as well so after quick hellos, it was off to bed because our next 2 days were going to be jam-packed with sessions full of listening and absorbing and brain reeling amazingness.

We rushed over to the Orlando convention center in the morning to find parking and raced through the center and then all the way over to the Hyatt for a breakfast hosted by our upline, Ange Peters. These convention centres are no joke! They are huge! I should’ve brought a scooter! After hugs and great conversation with so many high-level leaders on the team, we headed back over to the convention center to grab seats for the day.

The day started with keynote speaker, Justin Su’a. I’ve been listening to his podcast “Increase Your Impact” leading up to Leadership and I really loved how short & sweet his style is. On Weds, he spoke to us about 4 principles on How to Do Hard Things and the first principle really spoke to me.

Discover Your Why

When starting a network marketing business, someone in your upline usually tells you that you should write out what your why is. Sometimes you know right away. Sometimes you put a few words to paper but they haven’t really sunk in yet. This exercise is just as important as a company creating a mission or vision statement. When things get tough it’s always important to know what your why is. This will fuel you when getting up in the morning and designing a life where you leave a legacy that you want to put out into the world.

So what legacy do we want to leave on this world?

My why is to teach people how to be proactive with their health using essential oils as a key tool so that they never have to deal with a health crisis.

If I can help one person from experiencing the pain or fear of an auto-immune diagnosis then that will make my heart happy. But to truly create a legacy I needed to set my sight higher. I want to teach over 10,000 people how to take care of themselves proactively and I’m screaming from the rooftop this goal.

Justin Su’a finished up his talk with principles 2, 3 and 4 of doing hard things, which included flexing your positive muscles, learning from failure and being consistent with what works for you.

One of my favourite analogy stories that Justin told about being consistent and patient was about how bamboo grows. You can consistently water the bamboo plant and nothing happens, year after year, you can water the plant and nothing happens. All the while, the roots are taking shape and taking hold and then bam in the 5th year a bamboo plant can grow 90 ft in 6 weeks. At the end of the day, we can share oils, and post about them on social media but if we give up then we’ll never see the bamboo plant grow from our watering efforts.

In addition, to some amazing motivations here are some compensation, do good in the world and healthcare updates.

Empowerment Bonus

There is new bonus compensation for Premier & Silver leaders was announced. dōTERRA has Leadership Pools that are divided amongst all the leaders which is more than many other network marketing companies offer and now they’ve announced one for the middle ranks. The total sum of the pool will be made up of 1% of the global company volume. Each Premier and Silver who qualify will receive one share in the Empowerment Pool. To be eligible, a Wellness Advocate must be paid as a Premier or Silver that month. In addition, the Wellness Advocate needs to be the personal enroller of a new member (Wholesale Customer or Wellness Advocate) who enrolls with 100 PV or higher-order that month.

Annual Donations

But the thing that really filled my heart was seeing how much good dōTERRA is doing in the world. Over the last 12 months, dōTERRA and its customers have raised over $4 Million dollars for the Healing Hands Foundation. Not only is this company completely successful from a corporate capitalism standpoint (no debt) but they are so heart-centred. The Foundation builds schools in many of the communities where our oils are sourced. They help countries dealing with natural disasters from Haiti where Vetiver is sourced to Nepal where Wintergreen comes from. I’m so blessed to be part of such a giving company.

Healthcare Disruption

My last update is that dōTERRA wants to create disruption in the healthcare industry. To do that they want to nurture relationships with healthcare practitioners. They want to establish a standard of care, and patient protocol and create science and validation.

  • They want to create new partnerships with healthcare practitioners to respect their education and the vast knowledge they already have. If you want to learn more or contact Dr. Hill about healthcare professionals, please email healthcare@doterra.com or visit https://sourcetoyou.com/healthcare/.

For other updates on new product announcements head on over to the doTERRA blog.

This Leadership Retreat was everything I imagined and I’m so happy I attended. My heart is on fire for this company and I’m so blessed I’ve found a “side hustle” that lights me up.

Cleaning Up The Laundry Room

9 / 22 / 169 / 22 / 16

Disclaimer: I am a doTERRA Wellness Advocate and am in love with the company, products and helping others learn to be proactive with their health & wealth.

On my quest to reduce toxins in our household I tackled products found in the laundry room this month.

Dream Laundry Room

Insert Picture of my Dream Laundry Room 🙂

Did you know that laundry detergent & dryer sheets can contain surfactants, stabilizers and phosphates that are known to release carcinogens that are harmful to our body?* In my quest to reduce my exposure to toxins so that my body is fully supported in having a healthy immune system without any MS symptoms or decreased quality of life it’s an easy choice for me to switch out products in our home that could be harmful.

Here are 2 easy ways to makeover products in your laundry room to reduce toxins you or your family are exposed to.

Laundry Detergent

On my last LRP (loyalty rewards program) order from doTERRA I grabbed a bottle of laundry detergent. I’ve been using organic brands from my local grocery store but have made the switch to doTERRA’s brand as I absolutely love the company and earn amazing points towards free products every month on the LRP program. It’s better than Shoppers Optimum!

- staying up late working on passion projects

Why is that toxic?

Because it’s stopping me from getting up early and having a delicious morning routine. I’m waking up groggy or unmotivated.

So how do I solve it? A few months ago I had a plug timer that would turn my wifi off at 9:30 pm. We unplugged it when someone came to fix our wifi so now I have to get that bad boy plugged in again.

Wanna share one of your toxic habits with me and how you’ll crack it?!

The first 2 years of being a twin mom were really The first 2 years of being a twin mom were really hard for me. I didn't thrive. I've only started finding my groove this year. I've only started feeling into the woman I am becoming. I was so lost for what seemed like so long. In the grand scheme of things, 2 years is so short but it felt like an eternity.

I really needed to lean hard on this man for support and for comfort. Meanwhile, he's in the thick of it as well discovering who he is as a husband and a father.

So at the start of 2023, I declared we were going to go on a weekly date night. And every time I mentioned it to friends or our neighbours with kids they'd look at us a bit shocked and say "Oh wow good for you" and then I started seeing a babysitter come over next door once a week. I cheered silently to know they were putting themselves first and ensuring they were getting some quality time together.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While we love to get locked up in an escape room (we're kinda regulars at @escapemanor) and problem-solve our way out, I'm also quite content going out for oysters, dinner and drinks. Here's to almost a full year of date nights and prioritizing us!
