Every Friday I am going to feature a woman that I adore. They exude all the qualities of an Alpha Female and I want to dig into their lives to get some nuggets of knowledge to help us all live happier, healthier lives balancing life & work.
Definition of an Alpha Female
An Alpha Female is a powerful and assertive woman. Her confidence is due to being an intelligent and intellectual problem-solver. Being an Alpha Female is a State of Mind based on choosing ambition and being proud of it. She strives for a happy and healthy work/life harmony.
She is the brightest star in her constellation. When an Alpha Female stays true to their authentic selves and their missions they shine. An Alpha Female puts herself first because she deserves self-care and love. She knows that work/life harmony is found by staying true to your priorities and what makes you happy. She is never complacent about striving for better and nurtures relationships with all the people in her life.

What do you think of the definition and how are you an Alpha Female?
This is an excellent description of an “alpha female,” and in my own way, I embody this identity. What gets my attention about this description is that I believe is an empowered woman is about knowing yourself, being true to yourself, have a supportive community, having boundaries, etc. And it’s really about ALIGNMENT – when you are aligned, there is flow in your life and it’s easier to be your own version of an empowered woman. Also, you can be an empowered, assertive woman and also be feminine
What are you most passionate about?
I’m passionate about many things in life – but I am most passionate about having healthy relationships – with yourself, and with all areas of your life – your social relationships, your own health, your career, finances, etc.
What does work/life harmony look like for you?
As a solopreneur, striking a work/life harmony is an ongoing “challenge” – but one that I totally embrace. I love being an entrepreneur – it’s the life I chose – but I understand that I need may need to work a little more/harder/different than if I had a day job.
Share with us a time when work/life balance was out of wack? What was your aha moment that taught you it was ok to take care of yourself first?
This is a bit of an extreme example, but in 2006, I was working in 60+ hours as an elementary teacher in Taiwan. On a short trip to Laos, I started feeling ill, and my appendix ruptured! I ended up having emergency surgery in Taiwan. It took me MONTHS to recover from the major surgery – and while I was bedridden in the hospital, I developed a greater appreciation for my health, body, and LIFE! I realized that I had totally taken my health for granted, and also realized I had been focusing too much on my career and committed to myself that as soon as I got better I would start taking dance lessons! I ended up taking up Tango and have been in love with the dance ever since.
How do you nourish yourself?
Currently, I find the best way to nourish myself is to build in “nourishing” activities into my schedule – otherwise, it’s so tempting to get caught up working on my business for hours and hours on end. I schedule in my morning ritual, yoga classes, even dates nights during extra busy times!
What is your weekly fitness routine like?
I tend to have different routines – usually coordinating with the seasons. I love the Summer, it’s SO easy to be active! In general, I like to attend 3 or more yoga/pilates/fusion classes a week – usually in the early afternoon to break up up my work day – these classes also tend to be less busy. If I leave it too late in the day, I find I lose my inspiration. I also throw in the occasional run when I want to clear my head, only about 3-5K, and of course, there is TANGO!
What are your daily habits for winding down at night and reducing stress?
Since I often need to work long hours, including weeknights, I’ll often do some of the more enjoyable parts of my work in the evenings such as the visual branding or reading articles on breakups, yes, this is my idea of fun! Lol.
I also love watching a show and cuddling with my partner – something like Master of None, The Handmaid’s Tale, or The Bachelorette! 😉
What are some pain points of being an Alpha Female that you have to problem solve for? (Whether it be how people perceive your personality or managing ourselves – for example a number of things we do, etc)
One major challenge I’m experiencing as a result of having so little free time is that some people in my life (friends included) can take my lack of availability personally. Feeling misunderstood isn’t easy, but I know I’m doing the best I can – and I have to trust that my true friends are going to understand that. Also, it’s not always easy to work as a Breakup Coach, lol. My work often includes sharing content (curated and created) that is somewhat taboo – but I know that it’s important content, so I’ve had to develop a thicker skin. I know I’m helping too many people to stop.
What is your definition of happiness?
Love this question! My definition of happiness is pretty simple and it all really comes back to how I want to feel in my life. Danielle Laporte’s Desire Map work really helped me to define what’s most important to me. I want to feel secure, radiant, and inspired! I want to be loving and feel loved. Above all, I want to feel aligned with my heart.
