Alpha Female Friday – Jocelyn Freeman

Every Friday I am going to feature a woman that I adore. They exude all the qualities of an Alpha Female and I want to dig into their lives to get some nuggets of knowledge to help us all live happier, healthier lives balancing life & work.

Definition of an Alpha Female

An Alpha Female is a powerful and assertive woman. Her confidence is due to being an intelligent and intellectual problem-solver. Being an Alpha Female is a State of Mind based on choosing ambition and being proud of it. She strives for a happy and healthy work/life harmony.

She is the brightest star in her constellation.  When an Alpha Female stays true to their authentic selves and their missions they shine.  An Alpha Female puts herself first because she deserves self-care and love. She knows that work/life harmony is found by staying true to your priorities and what makes you happy. She is never complacent about striving for better and nurtures relationships with all the people in her life.

What do you think of the definition and how are you an Alpha Female?
I love the definition of Alpha Female because it isn’t all about “DOING,” it’s really about being. I like to say being is “in alignment” with your truth. That’s what I read in the definition. I would like to say I have grown to be what you describe an “alpha female” over the last few years in stepping into my truth, especially what you wrote about being our “authentic selves.” Before my personal growth journey, I was so buried beneath the projection I wanted people to see. I didn’t even know myself. Now, I have transformed my life from being a nurse to doing what my soul purpose is: supporting people in attracting their mate & then fulfilling their dreams as a couple. That took being “powerful and assertive” as you describe in Alpha Female.
What does work/life harmony look like for you?
Work / life harmony for me took first designing my life the way I wanted it to be. When I was working full time as a nurse, I had to wake up at 4:30 am in the morning to make sure I had time to write, read something positive and workout so I was fully primed. That was the foundation that allowed me to be in alignment for me to now design my life as I want. For me, work / life harmony looks like a moment to moment checking on my energy. I block my calendar from any bookings until about 11 am, so I can fill my cup. Then I book a few coaching sessions per day, intermixed with a bike ride to circulate energy, have a convo with my husband, journal, listen to music and dance. For me, work/life harmony is about doing less of what is not in alignment and creating the kind of business where it isn’t about filling my schedule back to back. I feel blessed.
Share with us a time when work/life balance was out of whack? What was your aha moment that taught you it was ok to take care of yourself first?
As I mentioned above, my balance was not perfect when I was working as a nurse, I would work extreme hours. Up at 430 am, and then after work, try to work on my side business at the time. The aha moment was actually when I woke up one morning and fell down a flight of stairs and broke my back. The doctors said he didn’t know if I would walk normally again or ever be pain-free. So while I was in bed recovering, I did a ton of reflecting. I saw that my career was beautiful but not in alignment. And then I took small actions each day to shift the way my life looked. So my body literally breaking woke me up to say, “I am not going to sacrifice my truth anymore.”
What are you most passionate about?
This is a hard one. I am passionate about people living the life of their dreams with the partner of their dreams. I believe we are each a soul with a purpose here and we each channel a divine message. That comes through our career, business, and our romantic partnership. Whether someone is currently “attracting their mate” or in a partnership, I am passionate that people do not settle in any way, they literally get to experience their dream life.
How do you nourish yourself?
I nourish myself body, mind, soul. I fill my mind and soul in the morning by listening to an inspiring podcast (like Alpha female!) or video, meditating, journaling and then I eat a nutritious meal with healthy protein. And I nourish myself by checking on my energy moment to moment.
What is your weekly fitness routine like?
I love to move my body more intensely about 5 days a week: from pilates to strength training, and I love to go after my morning soul routine. Then 2 days a week is a cruise on my beach cruiser or a walk outside beneath the trees.
What are your daily habits for winding down at night and reducing stress?
This is huge! So for me, I make a commitment to have no technology an hour before bed (I’m not always perfect at this) a majority of the time). I feel best when I turn off my phone and crawl in bed with my hubby to read and talk for an hour. If my mind hasn’t had time to download to-do’s I will empty out my mind on paper (I use the Passion Planner) so I can address it in the morning. Then I have learned the power of visualizing my next manifestation and implanting that before I go to sleep.
What are some pain points of being an Alpha Female that you have to problem solve for?
I would say in 2 places: in friendships, some women have actually felt threatened or intimidated by my energy and then even resent it. In the past, I would hold myself back because of that. But when I stepped into my true self, some friendships even filtered themselves out. And I came to peace with that as a good thing.
In a romantic relationship, past men could not be with my power (and I even settled here and ended a business because one man couldn’t be with my power). When I stopped settling and believing that no man could be with my power, I attracted my now husband who lets’ me fly in my alpha female energy. Once in a while, I’ll become a little TOO alpha and overcharge and that will cause some tension in a convo, so I bring my energy back into a balanced “goddess alpha female” 🙂
What is your definition of happiness?
My definition of happiness is being in alignment with your soul purpose, body, mind, and soul.
