Alpha Female Friday – Geralyn Power

Every Friday I am going to feature a woman that I adore. They exude all the qualities of an Alpha Female and I want to dig into their lives to get some nuggets of knowledge to help us all live happier, healthier lives balancing life & work.

Definition of an Alpha Female

An Alpha Female is a powerful and assertive woman. Her confidence is due to being an intelligent and intellectual problem-solver. Being an Alpha Female is a State of Mind based on choosing ambition and being proud of it. She strives for a happy and healthy work/life harmony.

She is the brightest star in her constellation.  When an Alpha Female stays true to their authentic selves and their missions they shine.  An Alpha Female puts herself first. She knows that work/life harmony is found by staying true to your priorities and what makes you happy. She is never complacent about striving for better and nurtures relationships with all the people in her life.

Meet Geralyn Power!

What do you think of the definition and how are you an Alpha Female?

I love the definition.

I have finally surrendered to the lesson that self-care must come first. I thought for years that I was really great at self-care but lately, I’ve realized that I secretly have always had a resistance to it. Especially when life gets crazy and seasons where my work gets passionate. There is this interesting shift happening I’m finding in the life coaching / spiritual / consciousness space where I believe as leaders we are starting to fully practice what we’ve been teaching about self-care. It’s landing for all of us now, more than ever.

VIA character strengths survey – What are you?

What does work/life harmony look like for you?

Playing in the dirt with my kid. Watching her with such an intense presence that I notice the subtle things: how she picks up a leaf. Stares at it. How she eats an avocado. How she loves to squish it around in her mouth and then spit it back at me intensely, ha. To me, presence with family and friends is how I balance my intense work ethic. I recently completed a strength finder quiz in my current health coaching program and I identified one of my top character strengths is actually connecting with other people where love is reciprocated. I had the most beautiful experience when I was pregnant with a fellow mama who lives down the street from me. She would show up at my doorstep at 11 pm with a pregnancy pillow because my back was killing me. I would, in turn, drop off an organic chocolate zucchini cake the following week. We cultivated a beautiful relationship on the foundation of reciprocation. It was fun, it was kind and my desire intensified to create more relationships with people where love, value, and kindness is reciprocated. Imagine we call did that? To me this creates harmony.

Share with us a time when work/life balance was out of whack? What was your aha moment that taught you it was ok to take care of yourself first?

When my business really took off about two years ago and I had my first 6-figure year, lots of clients, lots of projects, I was super happy and ‘in the flow’ as everyone calls it. But I realized I was actually too wired and this caused me to crash. I was spending too much time behind the computer screen and although it seemed harmless because I was chatting with friends, clients etc, getting jacked over my business numbers (I legit would stare at them and just get excited haha) my energy output was so strong that I was actually secretly depleting myself and I didn’t realize it. I needed to ground! It reminded me of the phrase ‘what goes up, must come down’. I know everyone talks about having good vibes, but I realized you can actually get too high and that’s not a good thing. You need to work on balancing it out. So I started to take long walks in the forest (with my shoes off — it’s called ‘earthing’ and apparently it’s a new thing but I kind of intuitively did it on my own before knowing it was a thing haha..  it literally pulls you back down into a state of feeling calm and grounded. It’s magic!)

I also made the commitment to pause anytime I felt myself getting too high and to come back to some sort of grounding activity. A hot bath, a long walk in nature or just time with my hubs and baby girl.

What are you most passionate about?

Omg, so many things. My kid, helping women tap into their intuition and unique leadership style. Helping women and families become completely financially and debt free. Mostly though I love seeing people crack open to a spiritual connection in their life, that co-creative power that’s available to all of us. I’ve been teaching the concept of surrender for about 5 years and I feel like people are finally getting it. Surrender isn’t about praying for your aunt to feel better (although good) and it’s not about praying for food for the poor (again, good intentions.) It’s about praying and asking every single day for guidance on how YOU are here to lead in the world. I know lots of spiritual teachers talk about this today but I feel like we’re just not getting it right yet and people truly don’t get the power of surrender. Imagine we all prayed and asked ‘what exactly, no like EXACTLY am I here to do’ and then we did that. Omg.

When I see the results I achieve in my life (and I have to remind myself to be humble about it, but still loud because it’s insane) and the results others achieve through this practice, I’m just blown away. I want as many people as possible to experience it.

How do you nourish yourself?

Lately, it’s connection with people who inspire me. I use the app voxer (have you heard of it? It’s like text messages but using your voice, walkie talkie style) and chat with my friends 1x/day.

Humour! Laughing at myself when my Facebook memories pulls up a post from 3 years ago where I was making an attempt at a really cool business pitch and it was really bad LOL. (Instead of beating myself up internally for like 13 hours, I laugh.) Hmmm what else. Baths. I believe a good bath can cleanse a week of crap in an instant haha.

What is your weekly fitness routine like?

Well I just hired a personal trainer recently and I’m super pumped about that. It’s so nice to get out of my ‘alpha’ headspace and just turn my brain off and have someone else tell me exactly what to do. I also incorporate yoga (yogaglo.come is amazing) and some meditation. I consider that fitness for my brain which likes to go like 24-7 ; )

What are your daily habits for winding down at night and reducing stress?

As a new mom I actually stopped working at night. That’s my simple habit that is working right now. I get up early these days and I flow throughout the day with more structure now and so after 6pm I’m fully aware that I’m just done. I don’t care if I have a to do list from here to China I leave it and it’s so empowering to do that. I find working with this trust and flow is pure magic, I’ll often wake up in the morning to a new client or lead in my inbox and I’m like “Ok, thank you business Gods for honouring my flow!”

What are some pain points of being an Alpha Female that you have to problem solve for?

Oh man. This one hits home. I definitely am a bit edgy and I love to talk about things that stir up emotion in people. That’s my personality. Especially lately. As a new mom I’m really into controversial topics like GMO’s, what we’re eating, vaccines, the autism epidemic, essential oils, leadership. I get that these topics can be deep and painful for a lot of people. Even before I was a mum however I’ve always had this courage gene inside of me, in fact bravery is another one of my top strengths and it’s apart of my zone of genius I’ve realized. I just finally stopped fighting that.

For awhile I was so scared to share authentically online (and I did it anyways, but I was secretly terrified) because in the past, while many people who know and love me have found my courage to be inspirational, it has made my aunt or my second cousin or even a close friend mad. I find when you have a hater, or someone who disagrees with your work, it’s so much harder when it’s someone close to you. But again, through my own surrender process I’ve really stepped into my gifts and my zone of genius this year and I’ve realized I just have to let that stuff go. The process of letting go became easier when I started becoming bored of over thinking it. That’s my first tip, is to become bored with your fear and to realize how much it will actually halt you and your global impact if you let it win.

Here is something else I’ll leave you with that has been SO powerful for me. When you show up as you REALLY are, as that alpha female, sure… you may piss a few people off. But it’s actually not that bad. It’s just apart of your process. I have heard so many women lately who are on the brink of a huge leadership upgrade, and they are scared of losing friends and family along the way. That’s the language they use and I used to feel the exact same way. But again, after being through it now and out the other side, it’s truly not that bad. There may be 1-2 people you trigger yes, but most people will support you.

And as you step deeper into your leadership and you bring forth who you’re really here to be, it will help you with 3 distinct things, so that you can go global with your message 1) to not lead from a place of reaction 2) to not feel like you have to respond by apologizing or people pleasing (which just shows that you’re actually questioning who you are and who you’re here to be) plus it’s a distraction from your next blog post, book or whatever you’re working on and 3) to not feel like you have to try and help someone understand who is not a vibrational match to your message

What is your definition of happiness?

Living out who you’re really here to be
