Alpha Female Friday – Brittany McLean

Every Friday I am going to feature a woman that I adore. They exude all the qualities of an Alpha Female and I want to dig into their lives to get some nuggets of knowledge to help us all live happier, healthier lives balancing life & work.

Definition of an Alpha Female

An Alpha Female is a powerful and assertive woman. Her confidence is due to being an intelligent and intellectual problem-solver. Being an Alpha Female is a State of Mind based on choosing ambition and being proud of it. She strives for a happy and healthy work/life harmony.

Type A Alpha Females often come across as strong willed and selfish. When we stay true to our authentic selves and stay true to our mission we shine. A true Alpha Female puts the needs of herself first without sacrificing her principles or dignity. She fills up her cup or gas tank first so that she has enough energy for her friends, family, and coworkers. A true Alpha Female strives for synergy with the world around her. She wants a perfect work/life balance but knows that it requires being true to your priorities and what makes you happy. She is never complacent about striving for better and nurtures relationships with the people in her life.

How are you an Alpha Female?
As a child I was always the bossy one, the leader of the pack. For so long I looked at it as a negative thing and didn’t realize how powerful a trait this was until I stepped up as a leader. Even when I started working in network marketing people challenged me because I do tend to lean towards the masculine side of business, which is hard to stray away from as an entrepreneur. I have a huge heart but am definitely a bit tough love and will give you the goods if you’re willing to listen. I am so set in my goals and have a very strong vision (which you’ll hear about shortly) that I am working towards and is the driving force between everything that I do!
What does your work/life harmony look like?
About a year ago, when I was just getting started in business I had absolutely zero idea that this work life harmony even existed. If I am being completely frank, I thought those people that found this balance were crazy. I work from home but my self-care and health are a priority for me. If I wanted to work 24/7 I would head back to corporate. Don’t get me wrong though, there are some serious moments of busy-ness but I always come back to surrender and self care. I work for an hour and will take a break to do something that will fill my cup back up. If you don’t find this harmony you can’t give to those that you are meant to serve. I always say, you can’t pour from an empty cup.
What are you most passionate about?
This question brings me directly to my vision and has shifted a lot over the course of the past year. My passion these days lies solely in changing the lives of women, especially young women. My vision for the year 2016 is to show women that they are not defined by their education, the way they look, they man they are married to or the cubicle they work in. It is possible to be a highly successful entrepreneur and earn a corporate income without corporate, and that is a belief system that I am slowly getting women to break. Showing young women the possibilities that they have in life and teaching them how to dream again is my passion and what gets me up every single morning!
What are you daily health habits that keep your immune system boosted?
Like I said earlier, I focus so heavily on my self care routine and without my daily routine I feel pretty lost! The key to my healthcare and boosting my immunity is the reduction of toxins and synthetics in my life and home. Over the past year I have completely ditched the toxins and replaced it with essential oils or natural alternatives. I wake up every morning and oil pull followed by a quick dry skin brush to pull the toxins from my mouth and skin. I drink 3-4 litres of water daily with a few drops of Grapefruit essential oil to speed up toxin release. I swear by a morning Bulletproof coffee as my breakfast to keep my brain function up. Literally a gamechanger!! I take probiotics and a multivitamin FULL of the world best ingredients that supports my immunity.
What is your weekly fitness routine like?
I will be completely honest. My fitness regime changes from week to week. I do believe in at least 30 minutes per day of exercise and will pop in a podcast while I’m on the treadmill, rower (my fave) or stairclimber (we have a love hate relationship). I work out a couple times a week with my man for a boosted workout and for more heavy lifting that I wouldn’t necessarily do on my own.
How do you challenge yourself fitness wise?
I love mixing things up with a new workout class or a challenging machine. My goal for this year is to run a race. I have yet to get anything down on paper but you can hold me to it!
What are your daily habits for winding down at night and reducing stress?
I’ve created such an incredible evening routine for myself lately and have been noticing huge differences in my day to day life. I love baths and will often have one every couple days filled with Lavender, epsom salts and some baking soda to draw out the toxins and wind me down after a busy day. Some nights I’ll toss on a green clay face masque and others I’ll toss on a juicy podcast while I soak. I turn off my phone after dinner to unwind and give my undivided attention to my man. I know that sounds super silly to some but for me, I cherish the time we have together and make sure to take full advantage of it! When times get busy I will often regret not taking the time that I had.
What are you daily/weekly nutrition habits that keep you well nourished?
I am obsessed lately with my daily bulletproof coffee. I drink it for breakfast and will have a veggie and protein filled lunch around noon or one. I have found this to be a key for me in keeping up my energy levels and brain function. I aim to make dinner or at least have dinner at home five to six times a week. My go to is a big stirfry made with grassfed butter and beef or chicken. I mix in a green smoothie a few times a week replacing a lunch or dinner. Smoothies are key for me when I’m on the run and don’t have time to sit and eat. I toss in a few glasses of wine a week to relax and get the added antioxidants. All about balance right?
What are paint points of being an Alpha Female that you have to problem solve for?
I believe that our job as Alpha Females is to break the status quo. We break rules, live on our terms and build our dreams not someone elses. I believe this is the biggest pain point for all women, not just Alpha Females. Many women have this fear or limiting belief around going against the grain or doing something that hasn’t been done before. I believe that is where we come in. We must stand up for women’s greatness. The possibilities are absolutely endless if we just believe that they are!
What is your definition of happiness?
Happiness is living an abundant life. I am not solely referring to wealth or finances but abundance in all areas of your life; abundance of love, of health, of friends/family. Abundance is all around us, you just need to stop long enough to notice it.

  1. Inspiring definition.
    Thanks to present great people.
Alpha females are also attractive to me for business, talk, fun and inspiration.

As a sport and nutrition leader myself, I’m looking for inspiration on how to go farther on the edge. I started a nutrition group program this week.
