Every Friday I am going to feature a woman that I adore. They exude all the qualities of an Alpha Female and I want to dig into their lives to get some nuggets of knowledge to help us all live happier, healthier lives balancing life & work.
Definition of an Alpha Female
An Alpha Female is a powerful and assertive woman. Her confidence is due to being an intelligent and intellectual problem-solver. Being an Alpha Female is a State of Mind based on choosing ambition and being proud of it. She strives for a happy and healthy work/life harmony.
Type A Alpha Females often come across as strong willed and selfish. When we stay true to our authentic selves and stay true to our mission we shine. A true Alpha Female puts the needs of herself first without sacrificing her principles or dignity. She fills up her cup or gas tank first so that she has enough energy for her friends, family, and coworkers. She strives for synergy with the world around her. She wants a perfect work/life balance but knows that it requires being true to your priorities and what makes you happy. She is never complacent about striving for better and nurtures relationships with the people in her life.

How are you an Alpha Female?
As a child, I was typically the leader in the group… I was never one to follow what everyone else was doing or what someone else told me to do. I challenged myself and others to ask the questions, to learn, to experience and then to share. My influence has grown because I teach + share only what I fully believe in and what I practice in my daily life. I’m grateful for where my journey has lead me!
Does work/life balance exist?
Years ago when I was a district manager – this topic was a high priority on the corporate agenda! It was like the nut that no one could ever crack. When I had my first daughter in 2009 and launched HOL:FIT, my understanding of this shifted. I believe in work/life harmony… as opposed to balance. Where work, family, love…life is intertwined and is all good! Today, I have a million dollar brand and I spend the majority of my time working along side amazing woman as they build harmony into their life. They are merging their passion for natural health with serving others. The key to having it all is spreading your time across critical priorities and I believe you have to be the one that is clear on what those priorities are – not someone else’s agenda for you.
What are you most passionate about?
My 2 girls, my husband, God, our peaceful home full of love, the platform I have today to impact lives, my global wellness team, empowering people with access to relevant information and the tools to change their life. I am so blessed.
What are you daily health habits that keep your immune system boosted?
I do these 5 things every single day for immune health:
– oral health: I tongue scrape first thing in the morning, oil pull with coconut oil and clove or peppermint essential oil for 10-20 min before brushing.
– dry skin brush with a drop of grapefruit essential to get the lymph flowing like a river in my body and help open up my skin
– I drink 2-3L of filtered water with lemon
– I take a probiotic + prebiotic blend that’s double encapsulated so it makes it to my intestine. The majority of our immune strength comes from our gut.
– I also take a daily multivitamin pack that increases physical/beauty energy and supports my immune function
What is your weekly fitness routine like?
I do something every day but let my body tell me what’s up for that day. A typical week usually has 2 yoga classes, 3 days of running and 2-3 days of weight training. I have a water rower in my basement so I use that for winter cardio. I work from home so I like to move around 12pm to break up my work flow. My next great idea for my biz usually comes to me during my workout so I keep my notepad with me!
How do you challenge yourself fitness wise?
i sign up for some sort of race ever year – a 10K or Irongirl is really fun! I like to push the needle just a tiny bit every day so whether it’s an extra few min running or an extra sprint or 10 more seconds on my plank – I like the feeling of progression. I’d also like to note that sometimes the greatest challenge is honouring what your body is telling you and somedays that means a beautiful walk in the park.
What are your daily habits for winding down at night and reducing stress?
I have a beautiful routine at night – once the kids go to bed, I head to my bathroom for a little self care time – I take about 30 min and some nights will take an essential oil + epsom salt bath – other nights I put on a face masque (this is my simple DIY recipe) and do my nails. Then I take 15 min to tidy up the house and setup the next day (prep anything I can for breakfast + school lunches), lay out the kids clothes – basically do anything that’s going to slow me down in the morning. I also review my top 3 priorities for the next day so I’m clear on what I’m committing to. And then my hubs and I grab some wine or some dessert and watch Netflix or have a date night. Before I go to sleep – I kind of play back my day like a movie in my head, I feel grateful for it all and look forward to doing it again tomorrow!
What are you daily/weekly nutrition habits that keep you well nourished?
For the last few years – I’ve been doing a version of bulletproof coffee every day with Chaga tea instead of coffee – and then I break that quasi – fast around 1pm with a huge green salad + protein. I cook dinner most nights of the week – typically more greens + protein + fats at night. I drink lots of water through the day. I keep 3Ls of water on my desk and pour from that throughout the day. I have a kombucha in the afternoon, herbal tea at night – and red wine 1-2x a week. I will also typically have a blended nutrition smoothie each day – with fish oil, greens, hemp seeds or protein powder, fruit and organic kefir. I order a local CSA box and this also includes pantry items. I also soak produce in a big bowl of water with a few drops of lemon essential oil and 1/4 – 1/2 cup of vinegar. I then leave this out for snacking throughout the day.
What are pain points that Alpha Females are constantly problem solving for?
I think alpha females show what is possible… I love the word possibility. We empower women through our lifestyle – to take action that’s in alignment with who they want to be. We create space for women to be part of a community of other women that share a high-level mindset and aren’t interested in living life on someone else’s terms.
What is your definition of happiness?
Harmony between your health, your relationships, your sprit and your finances. Cultivating a grateful heart. Serving others with your gifts and in your unique, authentic way… no one else can do what you do like you do it… so go do it!
